Maserati GranCabrio by Fendi A modern Maserati is as much a fashion statement as it is a performance machine, and the Modenese automaker aptly demonstrated that much with the latest edition of the GranCabrio.

Lamborghini Aventador scale model by Robert Guelpen When it comes to objects of automotive lust, few tip the scales further than the Lamborghini Aventador. Naturally, most mere mortals (like us) can't come up with nearly enough expendable income to ever fulfill the dream of owning an actual, drivable toy like that.

2011 Maybach 62
2011 Maybach 62 - Click above for high-res image gallery
Schmuck. It's the German word for jewelry. It's also the kind of customer who would be interested in buying a Maybach paved in diamonds. But that doesn't appear to be deterring the top-of-the-line Daimler brand from icing out its limousines like a rapper with a new record contract. Back in 2006, Maybach teamed up with Wellendorf jewelers to offer precious stones to deck out its interiors. Now the German auto marque is passing the torch on to Swiss jeweler de Grosogono. In a star-studded party at the Cannes Film Festival, the two companies announced a new partnership that will allow customers with more cash than taste to have their Maybach iced out. The first example of a Maybach 62S will be unveiled to the gathered guests with a diamond-emblazoned rear armrest (sounds comfortable), but a more thoroughly bedazzled limo is set to be unveiled in November at no less suitable a venue than the Dubai Motor Show. We can hardly wait. Fortunately enough, no official photos have yet been made available, but you can read the official announcement after the jump if you're so inclined. Chic, stylish and Italian, a car like the Fiat 500 is a natural fit for the Gucci set. But in case that wasn't obvious enough, the two Italian firms have teamed up on a special line. Spearheaded by Lapo Elkann - the rakish playboy brother of Fiat chairman John Elkann and grandson of his late predecessor Gianni Agnelli - the Fiat 500 by Gucci is a joint effort between Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini and Fiat's Centro Stile in this, Italy's 150th year of ndependence. The car itself follows in the footsteps of the Diesel edition - not to mention the myriad of similar initiatives involving the Citroën DS3 and the Mini - and is available in either black or white. Gucci's signature red and green stripe runs down the flank, with the Double-G logo on the wheel hubs and in the pattern on the leather seats. Naturally, Gucci has also introduced a range of clothing and accessories to mark the occasion. The car and collection were launched by Milan Fashion Week and will be displayed at a dedicated stand at the Geneva Motor Show next week. Trend-setters needn't wait to check out the details in the press release after the jump and the high-resolution images in the gallery below.   [Source: Fiat]

Rolls-Royce Apparition concept

Rolls-Royce Apparition concept by Jeremy Westerlund - Click above for high-res image gallery
To say that we see a lot of student car designs here at Autoblog would be a gross understatement. We see hundreds of 'em. Some are more interesting than others, but every once in a while, a design comes across our desks that takes our impression of what a car can look like and completely turns it on its head. This is one such example. Dreamt up by one Jeremy Westerlund while studying at the Art Center school of design, the Rolls-Royce Apparition is a rolling trompe-l'œil that at once both reaches back into the automaker's history and extends into the future. The design is based around the old motor carriages that had a chauffeur sitting up front, exposed to the elements, with the passengers coddled inside. Like most contemporary Rolls models, the front is utterly dominated by the prominent grille and hood ornament. It features unique touches like real mahogany inserts in the wheels, and the imposing overall shape is long and low: the designer took his cues from sailing yachts, and even though the model is built to 1:4 scale, it's still nearly six feet long. If such an extreme example of fantasy ever became reality, it would measure 279 inches overall - that's over 23 feet, or about four feet longer than the Phantom. See if you can wrap your head around it in our extensive high-resolution image gallery below. [Source: Jeremy Westerlund]

Detroit Auto Show: 2012 Audi A6

Audi has unveiled its mid-range 2012 A6 sedan, and as we learned from advanced photos, it follows closely in the mold of its big brother, the A8. As the range-topping sedan is a pretty piece, that's not a bad thing, but Audi seems to be channeling BMW's old "One sausage, three sizes" design mantra of decades ago. In this case, that means a massive single-frame grille, available LED headlamps (as shown), and a relatively simple and unadorned profile that lends the A6 a premium look that will likely wear well over the years. The new A6 will be available globally with two gas engines and three TDI diesel powerplants, as well as a front-wheel drive-only hybrid model. The most powerful gasoline-fed model will be the 3.0-liter TFSI Quattro, packing 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, routed through a seven-speed S tronic automatic. No word yet on U.S. availability or pricing, but we'll have more news on the hybrid model shortly, so stay tuned. While you're waiting, check out our high-res gallery below and the official press release after the jump. [Source: Audi] Continue reading Detroit 2011: 2012 Audi A6 is predictably handsome

Rolls-Royce and Bijan team up for custom Phantom line

On November 28, 2010, in CARS, LUXURY, RIDES, Syndicated, by SOURCE: Autoblog
Rolls-Royce Phantom Rolls-Royce has announced a partnership with Beverly Hills-based designer Bijan Pakzad. Bijan will work closely with the super-luxury automaker to turn out a handful of special edition Phantoms, complete with the designer's own personal touches. So far, we've been left in the dark about exactly what kinds of changes to expect, though Rolls-Royce says that Bijan will lay out a host of specifications for the company's craftsmen to meet. Considering that the designer's personal car is a bright yellow Phantom Drophead Coupe, we can bet that the new Phantoms will be anything but subdued. Rolls-Royce and Bijan made the announcement at the Bijan Boutique in Beverly Hills - nicknamed the most expensive store in the world - just before this year's Los Angeles Auto Show got underway.
