On November 2, 2011, in CARS, RIDES, Syndicated, by SOURCE: Car and Driver

Others see a motorcycle for those with recurring inner-ear problems. Fortunately for us and the rest of the SEMA crowd, someone at Killer Kreations looked at the Can-Am Spyder and saw Optimus Prime.

Aston Martin Reveals V12 Vantage GT3 Race Car

On April 19, 2011, in CARS, LUXURY, RIDES, Syndicated, by SOURCE: Car and Driver
How do you make an (extra)ordinarily luscious Aston Martin even sexier? By turning it into a race car, of course! Aston Martin has just done exactly that, revealing its latest GT3 project, a V-12 Vantage–based monster. It features a massively widened body, huge front splitter, and a massive rear wing. The new racer replaces Aston’s current GT3 car, the DBRS9, which first saw action in 2006 at Le Mans; by racing standards, that makes it ancient now. The V-12 Vantage GT3 will be the newest member of the Aston racing effort, joining the Vantage GT2 and GT4, DBR9 GT1, and the AMR-One LMP1 prototype. The Vantage GT3 is based on the V-12 Vantage road car, meaning it follows the classic big motor, small car playbook—but here, the 6.0-liter V-12 is tuned to some 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, increases of 90 hp and 96 lb-ft over the street car. Oh, it’ll drop nearly 1000 pounds (!) for a target weight of about 2756. While that means that the power-to-weight ratio on this car is much improved over its road-going chassis, we’re disappointed to learn that the Vantage GT3 has ABS and traction control. Insane race cars require equally insane drivers with extraordinary talents to push them to the limit. Electro-nannies have their place in commuter boxes. Aston says the V-12 racer will employ a paddle-shifted Xtrac automated manual gearbox. The first V-12 Vantage GT3 car will roll out of the factory in July, and then will undergo rigorous testing for the rest of the year. Ten lucky customers take delivery for the start of the 2012 season. For now, your imagination will have to draw up the livery, but surely the final products will be just as stunning as the rest of its family.
