2012 Land Rover Evoque Top Gear magazine has officially named the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque its Car Of The Year for 2011 after snagging top honors in the SUV category. Perhaps even more impressively, Jeremy Clarkson also named the Evoque his favorite vehicle of 2011. The compact luxury SUV faced off against the likes of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, McLaren MP4-12C and Ferrari FF among more common offerings. Top Gear celebrated in classic style by taking the Evoque on an African adventure through the deserts and mountains of Morocco. Sure beats handing an anonymous executive some cheesy trophy on stage. Readers can find the full tale in any of the magazine's 29 international editions. Clarkson was joined by Richard Hammond, James May, Top Gear magazine editor-in-chief Charlie Turner and the publication's full editorial and road testing staff in picking the 2011 car of the year. The crew isn't the only batch of writers to honor the Evoque. The model has soaked up 34 international awards since it debuted. Follow the jumpfor the full press release. 2012 Gemballa Tornado

Despite losing its founder under suspicious circumstances last year, German tuning house Gemballa is back with a vengeance at this year's Top Marques Monaco show. To help celebrate its 30th anniversary, the company is rolling out two new models: The Porsche Cayenne-based Tornado and the Porsche Panamera-based Mistrale. Both of Gemballa's new models sport extensively reworked bodies, which Gemballa says shave nearly 150 pounds off each car. The weight savings come thanks to carbon fiber body panels made in-house by Gemballa. Both cars' front fenders, hood, doors and front valance get replaced with new bespoke units made entirely of the black stuff. Gemballa also unleashed its expertise underhood. In Stage 1 trim, the Tornado delivers 580 horsepower and the Mistrale pushes 610. If that's not enough, Gemballa is happy to oblige with Stage 2, which takes either car to 700 hp and 737 lb.-ft. of toque. Keeping all that grunt in check is a set of enormous Brembo clamps developed specifically for Gemballa. No matter which car you choose, you get a set of 410-mm, six-piston discs up front with 380-mm, four-piston units out back. The new brakes exert stopping power on a set of forged 22-inch Gemballa wheels. Despite their size, Gemballa says the forged rims are lighter and stronger than the stock Porsche units. Inside, the cars get Gemballa's signature Alcantara and quilted leather treatment. If either of Gemballa's new rockets floats your boat, we'd suggest getting in line now, as the company says it will only build 30 examples of each. Check out the full press release after the jump. Land Rover Discovery 4 Armoured
Land Rover Discovery 4 Armoured - Click above for high-res image gallery
Why do people buy SUVs? Some do it for the cargo and passenger capacities. Some buy 'em because they like to sit high. But some buy sport-utes because, even though the most off-road action they'll ever see is a muddy parking lot, they want to know they can handle anything that comes along. But what if rough terrain or heavy snowfall isn't your biggest concern? What if you're more worried about being attacked by armed assailants? Well then... you're either living in a pretty nasty neighborhood, you're pretty damn important or you're just plain paranoid. In any event, this is the vehicle you'll need: the new Land Rover Discovery 4 Armoured. Developed with the security consultants at Centigon, the secure LR4 can withstand machine gun fire, 33 pounds of dynamite or even a couple of hand grenades tossed underneath. Unfortunately the added steel plating necessary to withstand such a barrage adds considerable heft to an already hefty vehicle, pushing the curb weight up to over 7,800 pounds. Fortunately, Land Rover has given its armored model the big 5.0-liter V8, beefier brakes, upgraded air suspension and heavy-duty wheels with run-flat tires to handle the extra payload, but the big Landie can still hustle to 62 in 10.6 seconds and carry an additional 1,100 pounds of people and gear. Read all about it in the press release after the break. [Source: Land Rover] Continue reading Land Rover Discovery 4 Armoured perfect for rough terrain, neighborhoods

Land Rover Disco 4 Landmark

While Land Rover made a splash in Los Angeles with the new five-door Evoque, back in its native UK, the company was casting a white light and a dark shadow over the go-anywhere Discovery 4/LR4. Presented as the new Landmark edition, the special Disco can be ordered in either Santorini Black or Fuji White with coordinating interior in either ebony or ivory - the latter being offered for the first time in a Discovery. To complement the stark exterior color, Land Rover has also given the grille, roof rails and 20" alloys a darker finish and fitted it with tinted glass. The Discovery 4 Landmark is powered by a twin-turbo diesel V6, and comes packed with all the features you'd expect from a Land Rover, plus a little touch of the exclusive. Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the gallery below. [Source: Land Rover]

2011 Saab 9-4X Crossover – Official Photos and Info

On October 18, 2010, in CARS, DWU, LUXURY, RIDES, Syndicated, by SOURCE: Car and Driver
The final fruit from the GM-Saab tie-up officially emerges. Nearly three years ago at the Detroit auto show, Saab showed a small crossover concept called the 9-4X BioPower, which was expected to hit showrooms about a year later. Since then, though, the automaker has endured a seriously rocky road, including a brush with death followed by new ownership, but the 9-4X has finally come to fruition relatively untouched from its concept form. Based on the same underpinnings as the Cadillac SRX, the 9-4X will be built by GM alongside the Caddy. The arrangement is among the last remaining ties between the Swedish brand and its former U.S. overlord. Keep Reading: 2011 Saab 9-4X Crossover – Official Photos and Info Related posts:
